Trinidad Stone Oven Remnant

In fall of 2012 I was out looking for the remains of the stone oven across from the east industry switch at Trinidad. The railroad had bulldozed an access road though it, so all I was able to find was this:

EWG Power At Hartline

Locomotives laying over at Hartline on October 11, 2012.

The Northern Plains unit belongs to Western Rail out of Airway Heights, as do the other 3 locomotives. It is a former high nose Norfolk & Western unit.

Return Of The NP On The Eastern Washington Gateway

This picture showed up after what I believe was a discussion between Robert Scott and then Director of Operations of the EWG, Steve Gibson back in 2011. The plan was to paint one of the company owned SD45s in an NP inspired scheme. Instead, they wound up painting the NIWX 1617 in a similar scheme, without the railroad name along the hood.

The 1617 has since departed the EWG for points back east. Rumor has it that restoration to it's former CB&Q roots is in order.

Note the Milwaukee tracks on the north side of the NP. A short section is still intact there today.

1913 Adrian Scales Removed

This is a pretty good map showing the layout of the Northern Pacific engine facility. Most of the locations here can be identified today due to their location from the turntable pit, which can easily be found.

Soap Lake Shoofly

I've featured photos of this location before, but I just came across an aerial image from 1955 showing the current bridge under construction, and the shoofly around the site fully in service, without a way for the highway below to get through the location. My guess, at this time, is the highway was new enough to still be closed to allow for the permanent bridge to be completed.

1955 Wheeler

Hard to say for sure when Wheeler was a busier place. In 1955 the sugar beet plant nearby was running, but today there are so many more industries shipping by rail, even though the sugar plant is gone.

1955 Tiflis

Tiflis was the junction between the Moses Lake branch and the Marcellus branch, north of Warden. Location is very near Bassett Jct. on the Northern Pacific, making for quite the collection of railroad lines out in the middle of no where. Bassett Jct is beyond the lower left of the photo, within a mile or so.
