This site features daily historical railroad posts from the Big Bend/Columbia Plateau region of Washington state. As a personal site, this is my online filing cabinet of interesting things I've come across about railroading in the area. Thanks for stopping by!

I remember my cub scout den took the Seattle to Portland train from Tacoma Union Station to Chehalis, waited a few hours and caught the northbound back to Tacoma. Although it was a NP/GN pool train, i was proud that my grandpa's NP F9's were on the head end that day. Still not as good as a cab ride though!! That's too cool!
Although it was about 10-15 years before my time, I was jealous that I read Jim Fredrickson would take his Cub Scouts up to Lester on the Mainstreeter every Summer for camping! What a way to go up there!
My grandfather was an NP engineer, Seattle Division, so my dad and I used to get to ride the employee specials that ran out of Seattle. My favorite was up through Lester and over Stampede Pass, turn on the wye at Cle Elum and return. Once we stopped at Martin, right near the Stampede tunnel portal to play in the snow. Great memories.

ReplyDeleteMy first cab ride was right there in Coulee City.
