This site features daily historical railroad posts from the Big Bend/Columbia Plateau region of Washington state. As a personal site, this is my online filing cabinet of interesting things I've come across about railroading in the area. Thanks for stopping by! --Dan Bolyard

Ellensburg Cutoff Construction Work Letter
"Sand Hollow" mentioned in the letter refers to the large sand deposits on the Grant County side of the river where now SR 26 joins the Columbia River from Royal City, before heading north to meet Interstate 90. Some of this is also deduced from looking at an NP survey map showing the lines projected through this area.
1912 USGS map showing Sand Hollow.
