Ephrata Air Base Area View

From the "Grant County Journal."

July 22, 1976

My posting of the photo isn't about the fire at all, but about the railroad cars in the view. There seem to be very few photos of the scrapyard operation of the Purdy Co at Ephrata. This shows at least 2 cars slated for scrap.

Powered Parachute Ride

Back in October 2005 I had an opportunity to get a powered parachute ride. These are the only ones I can find.

My house, when I lived near Ephrata. I miss being close to the tracks.

Air Base Spur 2

Map from the GN-NP Archives.

Not the longest spur out there, but I did skip the middle section of the map. Here are the very end of the spur, and then where it connects with the main.

Note the satellite image where it connects with the main, you can still see remnants of the yard tracks to the old railroad scrapyard that used to be in operation there back in the 1970s.

Purdy Scrapyard Cabeese

Countless cars were scrapped by the Purdy Co. at their Ephrata, WA location. Mr. Strodtz is the only person I've found, so far, that stopped by for photos.

This red one is the BN 11006, as seen above. It now rests near Park Lake in poor condition. It sat for years in green paint with its BN markings. Someone tried to fix it up, but never finished.

Many other cabeese in the area came from this scrapping operation.

Scrapyard photos taken by Russ Strodtz. Used with permission.
