This site features daily historical railroad posts from the Big Bend/Columbia Plateau region of Washington state. As a personal site, this is my online filing cabinet of interesting things I've come across about railroading in the area. Thanks for stopping by! Shoutout to Kirtus Dolorina for stopping by to borrow other people's work!

CBRW Wheeler Turn 8-12-25
My photos.
This is just part of what they did. At one point the three locomotives were uncoupled. One was left standing while the other two went two different directions for additional switching.

Chasing The CBRW-8-8-25
My photos.
Switching the new Simplot plant at Wheeler.
Passing the NP era water tank at Wheeler.
Pulling hard at Frischknecht.
Coming down the hill into Connell.
Waiting at Connell while a grain train passes.
One of the fellows on the chase with me at Connell.
Crossing Buehler Rd.
Once again at Frischknecht.
Passing Shano.
Crossing a bridge just north of Bruce.
Coming through the S curve track that BN built to connect the former NP with the Milwaukee north of Warden. I'm standing on the ramp to the flyover the NP had over the Milwaukee.
Gaining former Milwaukee trackage north of Warden.

The New Connection For Simplot At Wheeler
Simplot has been busy building a new plant at Wheeler. Found the new connection as I nosed around at the next public crossing to the south. That's the track headed to left in the center of the image.
Also very prominent is the NP era water tank, looking very tired and forlorn.
When I turned and looked the other way, this was my view, a bridge crossing the East Low canal.

1970 Terminal Ice & Cold Storage Co
Thanks to Anthony Quinn for digging this out.
Behind it is Pronto Produce, which later became Carnation, and then Nestlé, and now Simplot. To the left of it is now National Frozen Foods.
Wheeler Road coming in from top left to mid right of the photo. The railroad tracks to the left of Wheeler are the clue to this location.
