This site features daily historical railroad posts from the Big Bend/Columbia Plateau region of Washington state. As a personal site, this is my online filing cabinet of interesting things I've come across about railroading in the area. Thanks for stopping by! --Dan Bolyard

BN Radio License
Found these documents in an abandoned radio building. The equipment was pulled out in 1996 when the BN sold the line. This location is along the old CW Branch at Hanson.

Rock Island Crossing Signal
Found this at the Northern Pacific Railway Museum in Toppenish, WA. Quite odd to find a Great Northern signal deep in the heart of NP territory.

The NP Water Tanks In Wheeler and Bruce
A June 2, 2012 review of the tanks found some shocking news.
First one is at Wheeler where it has been out of service for a few years. Note the BN white paint with green trim.

More Railroad Grades In Douglas County
Found a little more evidence that the Seattle, Lake Shore, & Eastern Railway was grading in Douglas County. Here is a shot taken from the old grade of US 2, looking up at two different cuts. The lower is the SLSE, the upper is the Central Washington Railroad.
This view is looking down from the current alignment of US 2 over the cuts seen in the above photo. Note Dry Falls in the background.

Putt Putts Tour The Eastern Washington Gateway
On May 24, 2012, a speeder tour visited the EWG as part of their itinerary. This day they were traveling from Wilbur to Coulee City, then return to Wilbur.
First, a view of the cars while laying over at Coulee City:
Most important "car" in the lineup.
Movement of the EWG was dependent on the speeders clearing town.
Here is a representative speeder headed out of town at Odair.
Headed up the grade between Odair and Cement.
Got ahead of them and found a good vantage point at Hanson.
Said vantage point at Hanson, the former Burlington Northern radio transmitter.
