From the Othello "Outlook."
June 15, 2005
I had seen some of Ms. Kimball's work on display at various places over the years and noted that she had probably taken pictures for the scenes she wished to paint. When time came for me to write my book, I looked her up. It was then that I found she had passed away 5 years earlier. I did locate a few picture at her son Mike's house. He and his wife, Penny, were very gracious in allowing me to make copies of her Dry Coulee pictures, which have already been posted to this site.
You can see those pictures at this link.
This site features daily historical railroad posts from the Big Bend/Columbia Plateau region of Washington state. As a personal site, this is my online filing cabinet of interesting things I've come across about railroading in the area. Thanks for stopping by! Shoutout to Kirtus Dolorina for stopping by to borrow other people's work!

Dry Coulee Difference Of Decades
1978 view is a Dorothy Kimball photo, courtesy of Mike and Penny Kimball.
Bridge #118 location. Dorothy was likely getting the picture to paint a version of the scene later.

Difference Of Decades Dry Coulee Trestle
After recently getting a hold of a few photos from the late Dorothy Kimball, I was looking through the photos I took during a hike of the old railroad grade through Dry Coulee. Sure enough, I managed to nearly match one of her shots, totally by accident.
Keep in mind that Dorothy was looking for interesting things to paint, so she had no qualms about drawing on her picture to help out.

This stretch of track, originally built by the Connell Northern in 1914, had last been used for hauling trains of sugar beets from the interchange at Adrian to the sugar factory at Wheeler. By this time, those trains had stopped and this stretch would be pulled up in 1983.
This is the Stratford Road crossing near Road 12 NE today. Looking this direction today you would see a the Grant County Fire District 5, Station 6 fire station.
