This site features daily historical railroad posts from the Big Bend/Columbia Plateau region of Washington state. As a personal site, this is my online filing cabinet of interesting things I've come across about railroading in the area. Thanks for stopping by!

Trainload Of Starch From The Columbia Basin Went To Sweden
There's an oddity in the lower photo. NP rarely operated a GP-9 long hood forward as you GN fans are accustomed, unless by necessity of no wye track nearby!
I read an article written from an employee POV, about how cheap the NP was. The title of the article was "Rodent Frugality". Seems appropriate! My grandpa worked as an engineer for the NP for over 40 years but never complained. Just glad to have a steady job!

The NP being frugal, dispatched but one GP9 on this turn regularly. Good thing CBRW doesn't do that here!

That sounds like a great read. If you find it again, could you send it along?
