Rail yard for construction was located in the upper right of this photo. The Great Northern relocated part of it's line downstream for this project, and completed a realignment just above the dam, where Rock Island Creek enters the Columbia River, just out of sight on the upper right of this photo.

Mr. Stevenson likely heard of this derailment and traveled to Quincy the next day to see for himself what was going on. I posted the initial newspaper accounts of the accident here. I was given photos of the wrecked locomotives after they had been moved to Hillyard here.
