About 48,000 car loads of bulk cement, made from almost 3
million tons of limestone, were stored in these 5,200 barrel silos, and then
blended in the two at the right. By noting the deflection of the bottom of
these tanks, on a calibrated scale, it was possible to determine a very close
approximation of the quantity of material stored in each. The 400 barrels of
per hour cement pump which operated on the 11 inch pipe line to the East and
West mixing plants was brought here from Boulder Dam. Later a supplemental 9
inch line was installed to the West Mix, and an additional pump with a capacity
of 600 barrels per hour was installed in the pumping shed.
