Potential Derailment of US Construction Railroad Trains

From the “Oregonian.”

September 28, 1936

Three recent attempts to derail trains on the United States construction railroad between Electric City and Osborne were revealed today by officials of the M-W-A-K company. The latest effort was discovered Saturday morning.

Railroad supervisors in each instance found large spikes driven between the joints of the rails. From six to ten of these spikes were found on each occasion.

Vigilance is being maintained along the 30 mile line since the major portion of concrete and supplies is transported to the dam site over this line. Officials said anyone found guilty of such a crime would be sent to the penitentiary.
